Questions & Answers

Here we have collected the answers to the most common questions!

  • How should a bike helmet be stored when not in use?

Store the helmet in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes. Avoid placing heavy objects on it, as this can deform the helmet. Always let the helmet dry completely before storing it.

  • Can children use a bike helmet for play?

No. Children should not wear a bike helmet during activities like climbing, playing on playground equipment, or in trees. The straps are not designed to release automatically and could get caught, creating a risk of strangulation. Always remove the helmet before this type of play.

  • What if my child refuses to wear a bike helmet?

Be clear: no helmet, no biking. Let your child help choose a helmet they like. Set a good example by wearing one yourself, and practice at home to build the habit. Keep it positive: “Once your helmet is on, we’re off to the playground!” Most kids get used to it quickly.

  • How do I clean a bike helmet?

Clean the helmet by hand. Use a damp cloth with mild soap to wipe the outer shell. The inner pads can be removed and rinsed in lukewarm water. Avoid harsh cleaners, solvents, or chemical-based polishes – they can weaken the helmet's materials. Let the helmet air-dry completely after cleaning.

  • Are there Hamax bike helmets with built-in lights?

Yes. The Hamax Flow bike helmet has a built-in rear light with three modes: off, steady light, and flashing light.

  • Should I replace the bike helmet after a fall?

Yes. If the helmet has taken a hard impact, it should be replaced. Even without visible damage, the materials may be weakened. Helmets are designed to absorb one impact – after that, they don’t offer the same level of protection.

  • What is the “Etto Powerstrap” adjustment on Hamax bike helmets?

The Etto Powerstrap is Hamax’s adjustment system with a dial at the back of the helmet. Turning the dial tightens or loosens a plastic band around the head for a precise and comfortable fit. The system ensures even pressure distribution and is easy to use.

  • Are all Hamax bike helmets safe and certified?

All Hamax bike helmets are CE certified according to the European standard EN 1078. We prioritise robust design and product safety

  • When should a bike helmet be replaced?

Always replace the bike helmet after a hard impact – even if there’s no visible damage, the protection may be compromised. We also recommend replacing it every 5 years, as materials degrade over time. For children, it may need to be replaced sooner due to growth – the helmet must always fit properly. Replace the helmet if it shows cracks or worn straps.

  • How should a bike helmet fit on the head?

The helmet should sit level on your head, about 1–2 cm above your eyebrows — not tilted too far back or low on your forehead. Use the adjustment dial at the back to achieve a snug but comfortable fit. The straps should form a Y-shape just below each ear, and the chin strap should be tight enough that you can fit two fingers between the strap and your chin. The helmet should not move or twist when you shake your head.

  • What size bike helmet does my child need, and how do I measure?

Measure your child’s head circumference with a tape measure, about 1 cm above the eyebrows and around the back of the head. If the measurement is 50 cm, choose a helmet size 48–52 cm. All our helmets have adjustable sizing with a dial fit system (Etto Powerstrap) for a precise fit.
