What to consider when bringing the kids along in a sledge?

Taking your kids in a sledge is a fantastic way to include the whole family in all your winter excursions. If you have an Outback, Breeze or Cocoon, you also have the option to easily convert your bike trailer into a sledge, making it even more accessible for family adventures in the snow. When planning to take your kids out skiing, it's important to consider some key aspects to ensure a safe and rewarding experience for the whole family. Here are some tips to consider.

Clothing and insulation: Children who sit still in the sledge can quickly get cold, as they do not generate as much body heat as active skiers. Therefore, dress them in several layers of warm clothing, including wool underwear, insulating mid-layers, and windproof and waterproof outer layers.

Protection from weather conditions: The children sitting inside the stroller get good protection from wind and snow, but remember to protect the children from the sun with sunglasses and sunscreen, especially when the sun is shining brightly.

Security: Make sure that the children are secured in the sledge with a safety harness.

Planning and route selection: Choose a route that suits the children and their skill level if they are also going to test the skis. Schedule regular breaks to enjoy hot drinks, food and maybe a small fire for extra coziness.

Age and safety: Hamax does not recommend using the trailer as a sledge until the children are at least 6 months old. Always consider the child's safety, and adapt the trip according to the weather, temperature and other relevant factors.

By taking these considerations into account, you can make your trip an enjoyable family experience that lays the groundwork for many future adventures. Remember that the most important thing is to create good memories and joy for both the children and the adults.
